Beauty Will Rise
Psalm 117
"Praise the LORD, all nations! Extol Him, all peoples! For great is His steadfast love toward us, and the faithfulness of the LORD endures forever. Praise the LORD!"
It seems hard to say those words with joy sometimes. It seems hard to believe those words with an undoubting faith. It is hard to say those words when it seems the world is crashing down in every which way. It is hard to say those words when it seems sin, death, hurt, evil, anger, disaster is all around.
It's hard to say those words now as I am watching and reading reports of the flooding in Thailand. Spencer's host mom (the youth minister's wife) is trying to work her way home to Idaho from Cambodia and Thailand after spending the last 2 weeks training young ladies rescued from sex trafficking in cosmetology and loving on them with the love of God. The flooding is growing worse. The city of Bangkok is being "evacuated." People are worried. Families are scared. Can you blame them? It's hard to see how yet another natural disaster is hitting the Asian world. And how it seems the world can't seem to catch a break. Earthquakes, tsunamis, hurricanes, floods, fires... it seems to be never-ending. It's hard to read the words of praise above when it seems like the people can barely cry out for help because of the weariness and fear.
But His love is steadfast. He endures forever. And even in the midst of every disaster we can and should praise Him. We have a hope that one day disasters like floods and earthquakes will end. Everything will be made new. Everyone will be restored. And the kingdom of heaven will be ever present, for eternity. And we have a hope that GOD promised to never get so angry with us as His creation that He destroys us as He did in the days of Noah. We have the rainbow to always remind us of that promise. So, while there are still floods, earthquakes, hurricanes and disasters ravaging our world today... none of it will get so bad that we can't handle it. Or so bad that we forget who GOD is. Or so bad that we aren't able to find a way to lift our voices and hands in praise.
Beauty Will Rise
by Steven Curtis Chapman
It was the day the world went wrong
I screamed till my voice was gone
And watched through the tears
As everything came crashing down
Slowly panic turns to pain
As we awake to what remains
And sift through the ashes that are left behind
But buried deep beneath
All our broken dreams
We have this hope
Out of these ashes beauty will rise
We will dance among the ruins
We will see it with our own eyes
Out of these ashes beauty will rise
For we know joy is coming in the morning
In the morning beauty will rise
So take another breath for now
Let the tears come washing down
If you can't believe, I will believe for you
Cuz I have seen the signs of spring
Because out of these ashes beauty will rise
We will dance among the ruins
We will see it with our own eyes
Out of these ashes beauty will rise
For we know joy is coming in the morning
In the morning
I can hear it in the distance
And its not too far away
Its the music and the laughter
of a wedding and a feast
I can almost feel the hand of God
Reaching for my face
To wipe the tears away
Say its time to make everything new
Make it all new
This is our hope
This is a promise
This is our hope
This is a promise
It will take our breath away
To see the beauty that's been made
Out of the ashes, out of the ashes
It will take our breath away
To see the beauty that He's made
Out of these ashes, Out of these ashes
Out of these ashes beauty will rise
We will dance among the ruins
We will see it with our own eyes
Out of this darkness new light will shine
And we'll know the joy thats coming in the morning
In the morning beauty will rise
Oh beauty will rise
Ohhh
Beauty will rise
I screamed till my voice was gone
