Peru 2011
With missions being such a big piece of my (Kiersten) life and my major in college, it only made sense that I would go an a missions internship to complete my Bachelors degree. After 4 years of studying, researching, planning and praying, I found myself teaming up with the amazing folks at Team Expansion (a missions organization based in Louisville, Kentucky) and Project New Hope International (a missions organization based out of San Diego, California and Phoenix, Arizona). I then found myself on a plane, by myself, headed to Trujillo, Peru for 6 months.
It was the most challenging thing I had ever done in my life. It was incredibly hard for me to leave my family and My Love (we were just dating at the time) for 6 months and to trust that GOD and the team I was joining with would be supportive and encouraging and strong enough to hold me together in my weakest moments of heartache and homesickness. And while it took me about 5 months into my 6 month internship to really let myself fall in love with the people and to feel comfortable and confident in my abilities to do cross-cultural ministry, I learned some big lessons. And I learned that no matter where I am, I can be involved in missions and that no matter how weak I feel, the GOD I serve is strong enough to keep me together and use me.
I want to organize all of my posts from Peru here on this page for a couple of reasons. One, for a quick and easy way of getting to them. Searching through pages of posts drives me crazy and this way they are in one place. And most importantly, because I want the physical reminder right here at the top of the blog of the most challenging, yet rewarding, adventure I have been on so far. It's a reminder of what I learned, who I was and who I became.
