Another piece of my heart broken....
So I was driving home last night from Absalon Vasquez with Jorge, Carola and the girls. And I was pretty tired and so sat staring out the window. Jorge went a way that was different from usual. And what I saw just at a glance broke my heart. For the first time in my life, I saw with my own eyes a red light district. Most of you know what that is. It's the part of town where if a red light is shining, prostitutes and brothels are available. I had never seen a red light district for myself. I have only ever seen pictures and videos about them and the harm they do to women around the world. I have studied sex-trafficking and sexual abuse for various missions projects. I have spent numerous hours reading about the awful state of red light districts in Thailand, Cambodia, Korea, etc. But I had never expected to actually see a red light district in Trujillo, Peru. Only a few miles away from where I live and work every day. I grew even more quiet as I realized what I had seen. And almost started crying and feeling sick. It was honestly one of the worst sights I've seen here so far. And it was just a few red light bulbs. But it's what those light bulbs mean that made it awful. And those red light bulbs broke another piece of my heart.
I am going to attempt to research and study the affects/amount of sex trafficking here in Peru, as well as if there are any organizations doing anything to help. We shall see what I come up with and will share what I find here on my blog. But til then if you want to know more... check out RaphaHouse in Cambodia, Destiny Rescue in Thailand and Cambodia (and other places), Center for Global Impact out of Indianapolis, and I'm sure I'm missing some of the others that I have heard of or come across. But yeah. It's a start.

I don't think it is possible to truly understand how horrifying the trafficking world is until you see it with your own eyes. I was able to go to RaphaHouse a few weeks ago and they are doing amazing work along with tons of other organizations. Praying for you!!
