My new favorite understanding of Jesus -
Hebrews 7:26-28 (ESV)
"For it was indeed fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, innocent, unstained, separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens. He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people, since he did this once for all when he offered up himself. For the law appoints men in their weakness as high priests, but the word of the oath, which came later than the law, appoints a Son who has been made perfect forever."
Over the last few days (and in all reality the last 4 months), my Bible has been getting a lot of use. It's a new Bible. Spencer gave it to me just before school ended in May because my other Bible was too marked up for me to be able to actually read it. I like it a lot because it's just the text, rather than a bunch of study notes and added features that so many Bibles come with these days (wow, I sound like my dad). But anyway, with everything that's been going on this weekend (Brayan's death and then having to do first aid in Milagro), I have been escaping to Scripture. It's become my refuge more than ever. And today I read Hebrews 7. It's about the priesthood of Jesus. And the verses above were the ones that jumped out and made me think. I love the image, the description, of Jesus that the writer of Hebrews gives. It's just so perfect. It gives such a good image of how he was human, yet divine. And he performed the duties of a high priest better than any human priest could ever hope to.
