So very blessed --
The last week has been a crazy one. But it has been full of blessings.
I got to spend the weekend with My Love in what will soon be our new home. We went down for the official introduction to the youth, leadership and church family. We had a jam-packed weekend and met so many people. Everyone was so incredibly welcoming and friendly. Spence just jumped right in and did his best to interact with everyone on a personal level. It was so fun to watch him hang out and play "Kill Ball" (a new game to me but familiar to Spence) with the youth group or sit and talk with the seasoned veterans of the church family. I tried to interact with people, but unfortunately had to keep my distance due to having made my first trip to the area urgent care and diagnosed with Strep Throat. It was tough the first 36 hours of our weekend because we had so many things we needed to do and so many people to meet. But I was so exhausted and miserable. Thankfully the antibiotics the doctor gave me were awesome and by Sunday I was feeling like myself again and able to run around with the little kids to my hearts delight.
One of the big things we did was decide on where we are going to live. The church has a parsonage and we went back and forth a lot on whether to live there or search for an apartment. After a lot of discussions, number crunching and driving through apartment complexes we decided to give the parsonage a shot and start out there. We don't see ourselves staying there for years and years. But for the first year, or maybe two, of our marriage and ministry, it will be good for us to live at the parsonage. It has some work that needs to be done, but it sounds like the church is up for helping get things finished and cleaned up. They have even given me permission to paint! And yes, I already have paint catalogs and chips in my room. It'll be a great summer as I clean, paint and decorate in an attempt to make it home for Spence and I.
So, despite being miserably sick, Spence and I had a great weekend. I was so blessed by the kindness and sense of welcoming and acceptance that was extended to us by everyone we met. By the end of the weekend, we were cracking jokes and picking on the youth or the elders as if we had been there for months or even years. I truly believe that GOD has been guiding this whole process and that it's going to be a great experience for Spence and I to live and serve with this church family.
We got to end the weekend with a short trip into the city. Spence and I rode the Metro in and walked around down by the Arch and Busch Stadium. Spence had never been to the Arch and so it was fun to see him be speechless as he stood by it and looked up. It was nice to be able to walk together and laugh and talk about the weekend as a way for us to decompress and process through everything. It was also nice to have that time just the two of us since it would be our last time to hang out together until May when we graduate and move into the house (we are moving my stuff and him in the week after graduation and I will officially move in after the wedding). So, yeah. It was nice to just have time together.
And now, the craziness really sets in. I have my to-do list and 6.5 weeks to do it all in. I know it's going to be stressful and aggravating at times. But I also know that it will be so worth it when I get to walk down the aisle to my husband and then settle into our house together. 44 days!
