100 years ago in March...
A 100 years ago in March of 1913, here are few things that took place.... Now, granted all I did was search historical events and found this list. This is by no means completely 100% accurate or even a full list of events. It's just what I could find after a few quick searches at:

Now you are probably thinking to yourself -- "It's the end of January... Why are we talking about historical events from March 1913?" Well let me tell you...
Nearly 100 years ago, on March 28th, 1913, a girl named Ruth was born. That girl would grow up and later marry a guy by the name of Harvey Trippel. Give birth to a son named Charles and 15 years later give birth to a daughter named Debbie. She and Harvey would become strong leaders in their church congregation at Westside Christian Church in Springfield. They would even become dorm parents for a group of boys at what was then Lincoln Christian College located in the middle of a cornfield. They would have 5 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild (most of whom never got to meet Harvey). She would sew my mom's wedding dress by hand and with only one (yes, 1!) fitting. She would lose her husband after almost 60 years. She would have a cute little apartment in Lincoln. She would always have manicured nails and dress slacks on, always dressed to impress. She would always have plain and peanut M&Ms in a serving dish ready for any visitor to take a handful. She would start laughing and not be able to stop. She would love and serve her whole family and anyone else who crossed her path with her whole heart. She would share her wedding anniversary date, August 4th, with her granddaughter Cara who got married in 2012.
But then she would begin to battle dementia. She would forget the names and faces of her family. She would talk as though as she was living in the past once more. She would be strong in body, heart and soul, but not as strong in her mind.
But then even her body would begin to fail her. She would be plagued by a stroke and appendicitis.
And that brings us up to the present day. To January 26, 2013. A week ago my great-grandma Ruth Trippel, lovingly known as Mama T, had a stroke and was taken to the hospital. As the week progressed it was discovered that she also has appendicitis, but is too weak to survive the surgery to remove her appendix. So, the doctors are managing her pain, keeping her as comfortable as possible and all of her family is beginning to gather. We don't know how much longer we have with her. We don't know when GOD is going to say it's time for her to be re-united with Papa T. We just know that it's coming much sooner than we had expected.
Mama T will be 100 years old on March 28th. She has lived through so much. She has amazing stories of what life has been like for her. But she has been ready to see Jesus for as long as most of us can remember. Definitely for as long as Papa T has been gone. We know where she will be. We know that she has lived an amazingly full life. We know that there is always a time when we have to let go for a little while. But that doesn't make this any easier. It doesn't make these tears and this sadness go away any faster.
So, while some pretty interesting and exciting things took place in the month of March of 1913, I would have to say that by far the most exciting, the most interesting, the most wonderful was that a girl named Ruth was born. A girl who would end up being my great-grandma and a light to so many of us.
Please, pray for our family as we head into this time of uncertainty and sadness. Pray that we can remember that we have hope and faith and a certain promise that one day there will be no more death or pain or tears (Revelation 21:1-4).

We love you, Mama T. We are so grateful for the blessing you have been to all of us. And we are excited that soon you will be home in heaven with the Jesus you serve and the Harvey you love.

We've been where you are, but in two separate people. My dad died at 73 as a result of his dementia/pneumonia, after 8 years in a nursing home. Sad...unavoidable... The other was my 100+ year-old grandmother. She outlived 2 of her children but died as a result of her old age. Dementia is insipid, unstoppable (except in death), mean. It took my dad, my grandfather, 2 of my aunts, 1 of my uncles, Steve's grandmother, and now his mother is slipping away. It's mean and it's sad. But, praise God, all these people who were and are so dear to me were God's own children and are together in heaven, except for Steve's mom. My prayers are with you at this time of waiting. Your Mama T. is so precious to God! And so are you.
ReplyDeleteThis made me cry! I love you Mama T so much i'm excited for the day you are once agian reunited with Papa T and uncle Dan and everyone else!
