Reading for fun???

My goodness, it's been a long time since I wrote about anything. It is now just a couple days after Christmas. Christmas Break has been here for 2 weeks now and has another 2 weeks to go before school starts up again. It's been a busy break... filled with lots of work at Hy-Vee and family activities. My older sister and brother-in-law and niece are here. And yesterday my family surprised me by flying my boyfriend in to see me. Yesterday wasn't the greatest day because I have had so much on my mind and really hate surprises. So I was quite the crank towards him and my family. But today is much better. :)

Since it is Christmas break I have had some time to read for fun. Crazy, I know. I almost forgot what that actually means and is. But I have enjoyed it. I have just finished reading Francis Chan's Crazy Love. I had started it earlier in the semester, but with the craziness of school hadn't gotten very far. So, I wanted to make sure I could finish it over break. It was a book, in my mind, that definitely lives up to it's reputation. I was and am quite impressed with how well Chan wrote and built his ideas. Ideas that have been around for centuries but not often understood or followed. I want to share a few quotes that really struck me as I read and finished Chan's book. They are powerful quotes and definitely makes one think.

"My suggestion as you think, make decisions, and discern how God would have you live is to ask yourself, 'Is this the most loving way to do life? Am i loving my neighbor and my God by living where I love, by driving what I drive, by talking how I talk?' I urge you to consider and actually live as though each person you come into contact with is Christ." -pg. 166

"Have you ever said, 'I was made for this moment?' Do you believe you were crafted for specific good works, things that God knew before you even existed? Or do you compare your life to others and lament what you have been given? We have a God who is a Creator, not a duplicator." -pg. 167

"... We are not alone. Even now there are thousands of beings in heaven watching what is going on down here - a 'great cloud of witnesses,' the Scripture says. It reminds me that there is so much more to our existence than what we can see. What we do reverberates through the heavens and into eternity." -pg. 170

These are questions and ideas that Chan shared... and ones that made me think about my own life and faith. I wrestle so much with different things that I forget who I am and who I profess as my God. I get lost in my to-do list or desire to have perfect grades and I forget what my purpose is. I get sad and lonely forgetting that I am in no way on my own in this walk. And Chan did a pretty good job of helping me re-focus my eyes on Christ and remind me that my life is not my own, I am not alone and the God I serve is a mighty one. Thank you to Francis Chan for challenging me and helping me in this walk. And thank goodness for Christmas Break and the ability to read for fun. :)
