My Daddy...

So, my last writing was about my mama. This is one is all about my daddy. As I said before, I look like my daddy and am a daddy's girl through and through. He is where I get my red hair, freckles and glasses. I get my height from his mom, whereas he is tall like his dad was (I always thought my grandpa was a giant). I also get my love of books and studying, along with Buffalo hockey and football, University of Illinois sports and old war movies from my daddy. Not that my mom doesn't love those things. Those were just some things I always saw in and experienced with my daddy, while my mama was always active and doing something for us kids.

My daddy has been in ministry for 31 years. And he has been devoted to it more than you could ever believe. He has seen everything it seems in the life of a church. He has seen the good, the bad, the ugly, the joy, the heartache. But he has always stayed devoted to it. He has faced dark nights of the senses/soul. But he has never given up his faith or gone back on his calling. I know there have been times where he thought about it. But he never did. His greatest desire is to preach until he no longer has a voice or until the day he dies. He loves being a preacher. Even though he will tell you that it is hard for him to write sermons and he sometimes feels inadequate to speak the words of God. But he loves it.

There have been times when sometimes it is hard to separate daddy from preacher. But that's a part of life. His job never ends. And yes, there were times when I hated that about him being a preacher. But now, I appreciate it. Now, I am beginning to understand it. Because of his love for God and his love for being a preacher, he is dedicated to those in his church, his family and his community, no matter what time it is, no matter what the weather is (he hates the snow and therefore, doesnt like leaving the house unless absolutely necessary), no matter what the need. Sometimes, I know that gets draining, but he does it faithfully.

If I had to describe my daddy in just a few words, here are the words I would use: loving, compassionate, faithful, sincere, and eager. There are many words I am sure I could use to explain and describe to you who my daddy is in my eyes. But those are good enough for me right now. He is one of my hero's of the faith. And he is my daddy first and foremost.

To my daddy: Thank you. Thank you for showing me what ministry looks like. And thank you for modeling the heart and ministry of Jesus through your own life, ministry, words and actions. Thank you for loving mama and your kids with everything you have by first loving God. I love you.
